Aside from Trial lessons, no 25 minute class will be accepted. Teacher Speak: • Teacher talks less than 50% – Martin is old, he knows English, the kids can talk! • Teacher Martin uses his whiteboard -with 5 dazzling colours! to draw funny pictures, teach correct grammar & vocabulary ! • Teacher Martin demonstrates with pictures and illustrations.. some he may have coloured himself! Others are created by his graphic designer in Tokyo! • With hundreds of colourful flashcards Teacher Martin has countless memory and sentence making games to keep your child speaking (in complete sentences), using target grammar and remembering every word -to try and win next time! • Many of Martin's teaching techniques overlap until the incidental language used in class comes together to form a natural, solid foundation for your child's speaking ability. • Teacher Martin speaks clearly, slowly -or quickly! without accent (Want your child to sound like Harry Potter?? -nope, not here ;-) • And Teacher Martin has lots of friends! The soft and furry kind. Monta, Monkey, Rabbit, Andy, and Mr Lion are all important props which magically come alive in class. Each has its own personality which the children discover on their own through conversing with them in English. Student Speak: • 60% of the time -or more! Even the shy ones, just depending on age and level. • Pronunciation is important! Working with Teacher Martin your child can expect to have native pronunciation. • Students are always guided to speak in complete sentences -the correct way to lean! • Your child will be smiling, laughing, and having fun -but not too much! And I mean it! ;-) • Homework for beginners is fun, easy, and may include nothing more than colouring and saying words. For higher levels, it depends on the individual characteristics of your child along with what the parents are looking for. Martin's Advice: A strong house requires a solid foundation. But who to build it? An apprentice? A student? Medical students are pretty smart but does that make them the right person for the job? Language learning has many vectors and pitfalls that inexperienced teachers, or a regular tutor, won't be aware of. Don't go in circles. Time will be lost, progress slowed and your child may wind up with language problems too difficult to fix. Instead, find an experienced long term teacher/mentor for your child. It's important they have guidance and learn correctly right from the start. Build the foundation that will keep them moving forward, onward and upward! About me: I was born and raised in Vancouver (native speaker, we only ever spoke English at home). Growing up my friends and classmates were not only from Asia, but from all over the world ! If we had a ball and you wanted to play that's all you needed. Video games? -everyone at my house! A house full of kids ! My aunt always said I was an explorer and sure enough I arrived in Japan and thought, this is great! I travelled to many countries from there. I live in Taipei now and I go everywhere by bicycle. I've got three bikes -and they're all the same! My favourite however is the one I ride in Vancouver. I love riding. I ride every day! Follow your passion and do what you love! For me that's living overseas, riding bike, and teaching kids ! 😊 A Little More.. I've studied Japanese, and now (still slowly) I'm learning Mandarin. First semester at Míng Chuán Dàxué, I was near top of the class -but it took every waking hour. I consulted my teacher about the work load and after a few minutes she said, you understand this, why don't you teach the class? And I did. I taught her Chinese class (I hope she picked up some of my teaching!). Point is, with 20,000 hours, I am an experienced teacher. Am I the right teacher for you and your child?
