Join us right now! 1. Select a standard from your state’s US History standards. Every lesson you teach should tie back to one of your state’s standards. Identify the standard you are going to teach in the lesson. If you have previously created your long-range plan, you will already have each standard mapped out for the entire year. Go you! 2. Create your objective. Using the standard as a guide, create an objective for your lesson. The objective is the ultimate goal of the lesson. What do you want the student to know and/or do by the end of the lesson? When writing the objective for your lesson, use kid-friendly, specific, and measurable language. Kid Friendly – Use language that is easy to understand. When reading the objective together with your students, be sure to define any words that may be difficult for them to understand. Specific – Use clear, precise language that explains exactly what the student is expected to learn and/or do by the end of the lesson. Measurable – Include an action that can be observed and measured. Using words like “know” or “understand” aren’t easily observed or measurable.
