He is an experienced teacher who could readily explain any questions raised on the topic with precision and clarity. When it comes to grammar, he tries to make good sense out of the jungle of what appears to be mostly nonsensical rules. There is no doubt that he is familiar with the materials and with Japanese culture, and is able to impart such experiences and knowledge in all my classes with him. That said, he could do with a few cups or shots of coffee ahead of some of the early morning classes.
