About Jacob:
My name is Jacob. ð I spent most of my life in Toronto, but I moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to complete a masterâs degree in Cultural Studies. I liked Europe a lot, so I stayed for a few years, living in France, Germany, Spain, and Poland. It was there, in Europe, that I started teaching English; while learning other languages myself. ð I came back to Canada eventually, to complete a PhD, also in Cultural Studies. Subsequently, I got a job at a college in Toronto, teaching courses in the field of culture, where I continue to work. The pandemic has turned me into a digital nomad, and I have spent the last two years working online and living in Latin America. I love to travel, to learn, and to explore different cultures and different natural landscapes.

University style group classes with college professor, Dr. Jacob, PhD
ðĨAround 60%ðĨoff compared to one-on-one lessonsðĨ
ðĩThe advantage of group classes is not only the discount. When it comes to discussing more advanced academic subjects, group classes can be a better option. Students can learn from one another, by stimulating and helping each other to carry the conversation along.
ðĩGroup classes can also be a fun social activity, where you can meet interesting people!
These group classes will give students the opportunity to have a conversation with less pressure than what they might experience in an individual class, where they are responsible for carrying the conversation along the whole time. In the academic classes they will get a taste of a (short) college lecture, which will introduce interesting material. The students will then get to discuss the subject with classmates, with whom they will be able to establish more lasting connections.
I have been teaching university level classes of various sizes, both online and in person, at Humber College, in Canada, for eight years. I have also taught English language group classes in Europe, South America, and Canada.
ðAdvanced University English (4-6 students)
English University style course for ESL students. Learn English by learning about academic subjects, art, film, politics, sociology, biology, physics at an introductory level. Each class we begin by reading a short text or watching a video about an academic subject, work through the vocabulary and basic comprehension, and then we talk about it! Great for students who would like to get a taste of what a university class in an English-speaking context looks like.

ðŦTOEFL Preparation Class (2 students)
Practice the TOEFL speaking section with one other student. The advantage of this class, which is very similar to my private TOEFL preparation class, is not only the discount. You can learn a lot by listening to another student go through the same exercises, and from the feedback that both of you will receive from the teacher.
