<About me> Hi! I am Sing Mei. I have always been very interested in language, culture, and education. During high school, I listened to English rap songs and then I took part in impromptu speech club and drama productions at the small liberal university I attended. Fascinated by the crossroads between language and culture, I chose to pursue a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. During and after my time as a student I have enjoyed serving as a Chinese language teacher in five Taiwanese universities. In terms of work experience, I have taken large classes and small classes, children and adults, one-on-one teaching and online teaching. Learning is both challenging and rewarding and I know the ups and downs because I have been there, too. The Loving Classroom is the goal that I have been striving toward as a professional teacher. When the teacher has confidence, the learners will also establish self-confidence. In a friendly environment all can grow and excel. I think that with a happy mood, students will have the desire to actively acquire knowledge, making that knowledge more meaningful. So, I try to make learning fun and personal, and invest a great deal of time into each lesson. I always design different courses according to different objects, and I like using games and media to keep students interested and engaged in the class. For each and every class I spend hours in preparation to achieve what students (ironically) call my “freestyle” learning environment. This is important to me because I want to reduce student stress and encourage positive feelings towards the classroom and lesson content. By the way, I also know how rap in Chinese and Taiwanese ! My students and I are like coffee beans, and the classroom is like a cup of hot water. When we are together, we are able to prepare a fragrant cup of coffee.
